MARCHING ON

March 2008.

Charlie disappeared as quickly as he showed up but you can still see him everywhere you look! He made the interior really, really super unique and amazing. You have to see it to believe it. A big thanks goes out to Charlie and the crew. We can't thank you all enough for fitting us in! They put us in a really good position to start doing the finishing work we could handle.

Bobby, from our original stone crew, tackled the fireplace (with help from his assistant and wife Crystal). Using the same split stone like on the outside chimney chase he created this beautiful piece of art. It kills me because I love it so much. What a perfect addition to our great room and it highlights Charlie's mantel art to a tee.

Gutters were installed, a necessary evil. A few brilliant placement suggestions/changes were made by our installer and they look pretty unnoticeable. We will tie them in underground and viola - we are done!

I took the week off of work to start all the tiling. Wouldn't you know it - I got the flu. Tiling was a fog of achy exhaustion. But I trudged on...this craps got to get done!

(check out the grout)

The master shower was next and although it's a very large space the tiles seemed to go up faster due to the fact there was much less cutting required. I've used a glossy, white 3x6" subway tile interrupted by a slate and glass border. The ceiling is 6x6" slate and the floor is 1x1" slate. Slate spills over onto the floor in a 12x12" tile with custom border. Although I love tiling I am not the fastest but I work pretty cheap. I only require a glass of wine or two at the end of my work day!

(Bobby cut a piece of stone from the fireplace hearth to fit on our shower seat)
