SPECIAL DELIVERY

February 2008.

Winter at the mill.

A pile of useless, crooked logs OR priceless stair and mantel material?

Don't ask us how we did it but we managed to talk Charlie into coming back and giving us a week of his time to do finishing work (halleluia!). To keep things time efficient, D & I made a couple of material runs so he could show up and get right to work. Of course the weather had to be horrible - blizzard conditions, -25 degrees, 50 mile an hour winds. We pulled Charlie's borrowed trailer very carefully.

First load/cedar trim and tongue and groove.

Second load/cedar half logs and 20+ ft. rafter beams.

The second load proved to be a little heavy and we got stuck trying to make it up the driveway. Needless to say Dereck flipped his lid (ugh - men!). It was NOT a good day. After wasting a bunch of time we ended up using the plow truck and little red to get half of the load into the garage. At that point the truck effortlessly pulled the trailer to the house.

Boy is he lucky he can cook!
